Last year Will Rose set himself the goal of recording three tracks before 2021 came around, but with the extra time the COVID-19 Lockdown provided him, Will surpassed that goal and recorded enough songs to create his debut album. 2020 was far from perfect for most of us, but Will’s year took an extra twist, when he was taken seriously ill over the New Year period. Will in fact finished the mixing of this album whilst still in his hospital bed, so let’s dive into the music and see what results of all this crazing happenings has had on this album.
‘Lockdown Lullabies’ has a gentle and flowing complexion during the first two tracks, in ‘Overgrown’ and ‘Someday’ you get a sense of a quiet contemplation of Will’s mind within his lyrics and soft textures. Then the album takes on a different nature as the next two songs take different routes; at one the end of the road is a rocky track with a bit of edge to it, ‘A lot to Learn’. Then you have the lyric and slow tempo Edit of ‘Our design’ which has a slight hint of country on a summer’s day.
Like floating on a cloud, ‘An Open Door’ is an intriguing record with a beautiful duet vocal experience which allows you to float along in a comfortable nature in which the track grabs hold of from the start. Just over halfway through the album this is our stand out record!
‘Walk on by’ is a fitting end of this album Will binds all the good elements within the other tracks before it and produces a polished and thoughtful track, this shows that Will has learned and grown from this process of making his debut album. One would really like to hear Will with a full band behind him providing those extra layers to his sound to take it to the next level, Will should be more than proud of what he has achieved with Lockdown Lullabies!
