Warrington is maybe most famous for its Rugby league team, aside from that they can claim the UK’s very first IKEA store, a show where iconic American entertainers Bob Hope and Humphrey Bogart entertained US Troops in the Burtonwood Air Shelter just after the war, as well as being the capital of wire manufacture. Their musical heritage however is far more limited, although the Stone Roses’ front man Ian Brown was born in the town he is very much the epitome of the MADchester scene. So can Warrington born and bred band, The Lotts, be the one to put the town on the musical map?
The Lotts are known for a ferocious live set that encapsulates everything that the band stands for; Do it FAST, do it LOUD! This may explain the intention for the band to record 3 tracks and see what happened, then to step out of the studio recording 16 tracks in 3 days, all live and straight to tape. Producing this EP, We are the Lotts. This is a brave tactic and there is always a fear of losing focus of your main aim when creating a piece of musical work. The album isn’t a masterclass, as a matter of fact it’s just a bucketload of noise, sometimes a band’s live work just needs more distilling and refinement to make a good album. That being said ‘Dumb’ was our highlight track of the EP.
The Lotts are exploring their identity and finding their feet within the music world, they have a rawness with a bright flash of energy firing hot. The We Are The Lotts EP is their coming out party, but unfortunately I will be leaving early! There’s so much potential in this band they just need to find a way to show it off.
