‘The Odds Are Stacked Against’ is an E.P of protest songs in which No Murder, No Moustache tries to look beyond his horizons and finds himself constrained by the system. From such disenfranchisement, he has written a series of rallying cries to soundtrack the fight back. As you might expect, this is a punk album. However, here the power chords have been substituted for Celtic instruments (fiddle, ukulele, accordion, banjo, etc) played with the same power and intensity. What results therefore has a fascinating uniqueness to it.
Anti-fascist throughout, it is lyrically pointed towards those in power. On ‘Sing’ Fight! Survive!’ he references the magic money tree, when "we all know where it goes". No Murder, No Moustache is not being beaten by the cynicism that faces him. The music here breathes life to the listener, overcomes and empowers.
A constant theme is the plea for the listener not to give up and conform. On ‘Let The Anger Into Your Heart’ he calls on us to instead "burn as bright as you can burn" whilst a Celtic shindig explodes around him. On ‘closer’, he sings of creating an alternative utopia away from discriminatory mainstream ideas and "the brainwashed status quo".
As previously, there is also a Welsh-language track on the album ("Sut Tyfodd Y Gath Mor Dew?") and he has stated how "important" to him this inclusion is and how delighted he is to add to the "amazing Welsh and bilingual artists around at the moment".
This new EP adds to No Music, No Moustache's debut EP from 2020. He'll be looking to pick up where he left off pre-lockdowns and he indeed returns for his first gig of a new tour this August at the last venue he played; The Moon Club in Cardiff. The stage is set to start spreading some very important messages.
