Muskrat Meadows Single Review

Track Title: Stoned ape theory

‘Stoned ape theory’, It has never been scientifically proven but Vancouver's Muskrat Meadows believes human evolution may have been propelled by apes stumbling upon psychoactive mushrooms. At least that's what they propose in this, their debut single "Stoned ape theory".

Musically, things are suitably psychedelic and Muskrat Meadows like things bone-shakingly loud (so loud, they provide ear plugs at their gigs) with deep bass, pounding drums, and washes of guitar. By the climax, singer Ben Porter sees things out with some vocal-shredding shriek-singing.

A more mellow psychedelic sound is also promised as part of the bands sound but, for starters, ‘Stoned Ape Theory’ swaggers in confidently to announce itself at the party. As a touchstone, think the desert rock of Queens of the Stone Age. As the band themselves explain, they try to bring their varied talents together as a "cohesive groove". If you like it, be sure to check out the video. It's trippy animation brilliantly details the whole story.
