Friday night is here and there is a knock at the door. You stop thinking about tomorrow when you’re greeted by a “citric Cinderella” with “a full moon in her eye”. Little Thief’s new single ‘Freak’ paints a picture of such a moment and the unfolding of the consequences of uniting with a fiery lover.
In the band's own words, the song is about “that wild card lover” whose evening entry is “like the beginning of a superhero movie”. Musically, this is straight-ahead twenty-first century rock ‘n’ roll done to perfection. It has the kind of bass heavy riff served up by the likes of Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age. The sound is fresh and makes a perfect soundtrack to such nocturnal scenes.
The band’s other singles show similar confidence, including a brilliant re-working of Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film”, made for the rock listener. Sadly, the band’s label Funnel Records folded during COVID and they had to Crowdfund the upcoming album ‘Under The Patio’. The album has been recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios, which has delivered countless classics and even more rock n roll tales. It was produced by Stew Jackson, who counts Massive Attack amongst his credits. With this latest taster, I for one keenly await the full L.P.
