Goldenbloom Single Review

It’s a beautiful thing to witness bands like Idles, Kid Kapichi, and Shame create a new era of post punk, and with that new era new branches offshoot from the genre for bands like Goldenbloom! This is the first single of 2022 for the band who formed in 2019, they are known for their punchy energy packed sound and this track ‘Chin Up’ is no different. 

Straight from the start you have the crash-bam wallop of in-your-face punk lyrics, roaring out an emotional impulse deep down inside one’s gut. The lyrics within this track are a hard fought expression of a man breaking the walls of masculinity, I loved the way the hard fast paced tempo and rhythm of the track gives the howling vocals of Jordan Walker a life on its own, but I got to say the 99 problems section of the lyrics touched too close to a predecessor record which also used these words as a main focus within their track for me and I don’t want to see this as a distraction for a really good track of its own.  

Each and every time a new band emerges from the tree of punk, the happier I become. The layers of angry punk have breathed new life into facing up to the problems we have in the world and Goldenbloom is a good band to add to this new era.
