The ragged, rough, rocky and beautiful part of west Yorkshire where ‘Going Feral’ are based, has clearly been influential to their sound, which blends post metal with infused math rock instrumental sounds. This is the second single for Going Feral after only forming in November of 2019 and releasing their debut single ‘Ghoul Rebellion’ last year, so it’s not surprising that ‘Too Late, Already it’s Too Late’ is expected to be the lead single for a forthcoming EP later in the year, as long as the pandemic allows it to happen. This record has been muted as a more contemplative side of Going Feral and it’s a journey of quiet reflection or a realisation to inevitable growing anger and destruction.
Like a steady running river with the occasional ripple of a fallen leaf giving a wakening to its nature, the opening to ‘Too Late, Already It’s Too Late’ has a steady and calming flow, but it doesn’t take long for a multiple of blending textures to blend together and give this track more life, what’s interesting about the song is the ease which Going Feral go from one section to the next like a flick of an artist’s brush on a canvass.
Then halfway through a new light is shone on that steady river as a storm of heavier tones awash the shore, when you hear the description of the track at the start you wonder if you read wrong but no, this 9-minute track is a journey indeed. From that quiet reflection to that angry realisation, it is done in a manner that you feel that the track mixes correctly and it’s not the risk of putting two songs together as one.
All together this is a band that’s fairly newly formed but have an intelligence with music that allows the music they make present in such a polished manner.
